The prophet from Judah, sent by God to rebuke Jeroboam for his calf worship in Bethel, is deceived into disobeying God. He sinned because he believed a lie. This serves as a warning even today as there are many false teachers who preach lies. The lesson is to ensure what the Bible says, and not what man teaches.
